Kilslug

Kilslug were a notoriously gnarly sludge-punk band from Boston back in the 1980's who specialized in sludgy, fucked-up dirge punk heavy and anti-social and completely fuckin' inebriated, with Larry Lifeless on vocals, one fearsome fucking frontman who has one of the most distinctive howls ever, and who by all accounts was a genuine menace to society back during Kilslug's reign of terror, pulling knives on audience members, etc. They put out two 7" Eps, a cassette and one album, Answer The Call, which came out on Taang! in 1985

Frogskin

Crawling ballsdeep in mud, Frogskin delivers three songs in forty minutes. While sucking influences from such acts as EyeHateGod and Electric Wizard, they have still managed to create a very unique and filthy soundscape of Finnish hatred

Frogskin - Self Titled
http://lix.in/-2dffc1

"Ridiculously heavy, churning, doom-y sludge from Finland that brings Noothgrush and Sour Vein to mind. This is just…damn… heavy." (review from paranoizenola.com).

Ancestors [2008]Neptune With Fire

"Everything about Ancestors’ debut, Neptune with Fire, screams “'70s prog,” from the title and cover art that reference King Crimson’s In the Wake of Poseidon to the two epic-length tracks contained therein that just beg to stretch across the two sides of a 180-gram vinyl LP. And of course any metal band with two full-time members responsible for electric organ and “textural incarnations” is bound to have a healthy appreciation for the psychedelic spaciness of Hawkwind and early Pink Floyd. Ancestors build Neptune With Fire on a series of simple, heavy guitar licks, jammed out ad infinitum. They aim for cosmic highs through repetition and atmosphere, but the album connects most when they’re focusing on nothing more transcendent than a great doom riff."

I see this as easily being one of my favorite albums of '08.
Snag it off Tee Pee Records or All That Is Heavy, I think the latter is cheaper though.

Hank Fucking Williams

I shouldn't need too much description here, it's Hank Fucking Williams. The Grandaddy of Country. This is a 10 CD collection of probably every recording he ever did.

Tom Denney

If your into sludge/doom and all its varieties then you have at one point or another seen the artwork of Tom Denney.

Beauty and mysticism meet the grotesque. Tom Denney creates some powerful and striking imagery. He’s a reknowned poster, CD and t-shirt artist for many notable underground bands(Sourvein, Black Cobra, Deadbird, Soilent Green just to name a few). He’s always pushing his own artistic limits and also happens to be a very skilled video and motion graphics artist. To put it simply, Tom has some heavy shit on his mind.

Well now he has a book of his art and I recommend you go buy a copy. This is a pdf of that book as a way for you to sample what you will be getting. You need all 5 parts to extract the file. PDF is a little over 500mb in size

The Ruins Of Beverast - Unlock The Shrine

"In the endless line of mono-creative black metal there has never been something quite like _Unlock the Shrine_. This brainchild of former Nagelfar drummer Alexander von Meilenwald, who likens the music to the apocalyptic collapse of the famed "Rainbow Bridge" in Norse mythology, was originally released in 2004 on German label Van and now sees North American distribution through Battle Kommand Records.

On paper, Ruins of Beverast seem to be a part of the more typical, commercial and outlandish sound of its contemporaries, combining elements of Norse black metal with variants of avant-garde and shoegaze. Outlandish, certainly, but its bizarre mixture of styles is hardly fashionable by comparison. Unlike groups such as Blut Aus Nord, who've been greeted by similar reverence as innovators, Meilenwald does not give away his influences so easily, nor lean too long on each for sustenance.

Peppered with film samples throughout its hour-long discourse, the elusive, loosely cinematic tone of the music is carried by fantastic processionals and shivering guitar currents. Keyboards effuse behind walls of epic structuring. Hints of early Mayhem subside into Summoning-esque pomp and deform into an operatic horror show with eerie clanks of armor, lonely drips of water and crippled melodies with some self-aware camp in between. Primarily, vocals emerge as part of the music itself, coming into focus gradually like images in a pin-art box and dissolve back into the layers of sound.

Debris - Static Disposal

Debris was a proto-punk band from Chickisha, Oklahoma, which is why most people have never heard them. They recorded one album in 1975 which never went anywhere and then they broke up. They have been cited as an influence by the likes of Nurse With Wound, Sonic Youth, and The Flaming Lips.

Austrasian Goat

Named after a now-obscure Dark Ages territory once existing in Central Europe, France’s one-man doom act The Austrasian Goat delivers some seriously haunting and murky blackened ritual music. The creeping filthy guitar lines and cavernous plodding drums are accented nicely by beautifully subtle swaths of keyboard ambience and sole-member Julien Lovet’s rasped shriek, all coming together to create a simply crushing album sure to please fans of the funeral genre."

"One of the most promising bands, The Austrasian Goat from France combines minimalistic raw black metal with sludge, drone and funeral doom. Evil, awesome and beautiful sounds collide with frightening tunes. "

John Moreland and the Black Gold Band - Demo

The Black Gold Band features two members of Widow Song (see below), but is a stark contrast from said band. The Black Gold Band is just straight up rock and roll with some Oklahoma flair. This is their demo from a couple years ago because John asked me not to post their new album Endless Oklahoma Sky just yet. You can check some songs from that here.

This band also has a song nominated in the running to become Oklahoma's official state rock song. If you want to vote for them you can do so here: http://www.oklahomarocksong.org/

Widow Song

This now defunct band was from Oklahoma and Texas and featured members of machinist, thirty called arson, operator dead:post abandoned, glass hearted soldier, and vessels cast from crippled hands. I believe they were trying to achieve a Southern Metal feel and it kinda came out like some fucking crushing Southern Sludge.
